I always hate when people can’t just cut to the chase. Why can’t you just say what you have to say? Why make small talk or pretend that you are going to soften the blow of the bad news? Will it make whatever you are going to ask for or whatever news you have to deliver suddenly easier to say? You know it won’t make a difference in the end, you are just stalling for your own sake.
It makes sense in therory. But when it is you bearing the bad news, the tables turn, and you suddenly find yourself dancing around the subject. Buying time before you have to say what you don’t want to say. What if we lived in a world where everyone said the blunt, honest truth from the beginning? Laid their intentions out before anything else was said. Left the small talk for last. Talked about the weather before saying goodbye instead of hello. It would be an alternte reality, a very different world.
